The "2024 Startup White Paper" was released. Startups are the key force in Taiwan's economic innovation and transformation
2025-03-31

According to the FINDIT platform startup database, there will be more than 9,500 startups in Taiwan by the end of 2024, and the application areas of their products or services show a diversified development trend, covering multiple fields such as health care, media and entertainment, food and catering, consumer products, hardware manufacturing, and software applications. In recent years, the number of entrepreneurs in the fields of digital applications and transformation (artificial intelligence, software), energy, sustainability, and the environment has grown fastest. These trends are not only closely related to Taiwan's key industrial advantages, but also show that the government's policy support for strategic fields such as digital transformation, net zero transformation, health care, semiconductors, and AI has laid a solid foundation for the innovative entrepreneurial environment.

In terms of talent investment in start-ups, it is currently found that Taiwanese entrepreneurial teams and start-ups generally attach great importance to technology research and development and innovation. Nearly 70% of companies have technical talents and take technology development as their core business, using production outsourcing to improve operating efficiency. In addition, in order to cope with future business growth and innovative development, talent recruitment will focus on positions such as business development, innovative research and development, and marketing.

Among the incubation institutions, the number of accelerators has grown the fastest. Their services mainly help start-ups connect with resources and market channels, driving investment and business opportunities. Among them, accelerators supported by enterprises have become an important trend. This phenomenon is not only due to the policy support of the Small, Medium and Start-up Enterprises Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, but also related to the fact that Taiwan's medium and large enterprises have begun to use new technologies and talents to promote external innovation and enhance growth momentum.

The White Paper on Startups collects a number of entrepreneurship support measures promoted by the Taiwan government. In terms of funding measures, it provides multiple funding channels, such as subsidies, loans, and investments, to support funding needs at different stages of development. In terms of market measures, it assists start-ups in entering domestic and foreign markets, including innovation parks, international exhibitions, and corporate cooperation. In terms of talent measures, it improves the quality of talent in start-up teams through talent cultivation, retention, and recruitment strategies. Other comprehensive measures include providing services such as regulatory consulting, technology research and development, award competitions, and information platforms, as well as accounting and marketing coaching resources to help start-ups obtain the resources and coaching they need at different stages. In the future, the government will adjust policy resources based on Taiwan's innovative development patterns, gradually improve the investment environment, and inject more development momentum into Taiwan's economy.
