The Ministry of Economic Affairs held a press conference today (26th) to release the 2025 White Paper on Small and Medium Enterprises. The White Paper provides an in-depth analysis of the current operating conditions and development trends of SMEs, while also focusing on the core transformation issues they face amid the current international trade environment.
In 2024, Taiwan’s SMEs demonstrated a steady and positive growth trend overall, continuing to play a vital role in stabilizing the national economy. The number of SMEs exceeded 1.715 million, accounting for more than 98% of all enterprises. They employed approximately 9.194 million people, providing nearly 80% of total employment opportunities nationwide. In addition, total sales exceeded NT$31 trillion, accounting for more than 50% of total enterprise sales. This performance was driven primarily by strong domestic demand, with domestic sales surpassing NT$27.8 trillion, representing a growth rate of 8.32%, the most notable increase among all indicators.
These figures fully demonstrate that SMEs are a major pillar of Taiwan’s economic development and social stability.
